Request for Deviation
What it actually means
A request for authorization to depart from a requirement before the nonconforming item is built — planned nonconformance, approved in advance for a defined quantity or period. Its sibling, the request for waiver, asks forgiveness for nonconformance that already exists. Chronic deviations on the same requirement are a signal the requirement or the process is wrong.
