Quality Function Deployment
What it actually means
A matrix method (the "house of quality") for translating customer needs into weighted technical characteristics, and cascading those down through design levels — making the customer-need-to-spec chain explicit and traceable. Heavyweight in full form, but even a single-level QFD exercise exposes requirements that trace to no need at all.
